Instagram looks to replicate TikToks key features.

If you’re like me, you’ve been getting excessive amounts of ads for TikTok, a social networking platform that allows users to create and record “clips” or segments of videos into a single story. Instagram is looking to add a similar function in order to fend off the TikTok competition, and keep its 2.7 billion active users across its “family of apps” from straying away.

Majority of NFL fans watched opening week games via streaming apps.

58% of adult viewers reported watching at least one game via a paid streaming service or app according to a new Snapshot Study from agency Colling Media. This report offers both good and bad insights for the NFL and football marketers as the shift to digital viewing continues to grow. On one hand, advertisers and the NFL welcome the robust presence on paid streaming apps and services but on the other hand, data shows just how scattered the online viewing landscape has become.

Facebook begins rolling out updated desktop layout.

Facebook has begun rolling out an updated desktop view. The new layout aims to make it easier to navigate between your favorite elements, with tabs along the top of the screen, creating a more compressed view.The new experience aims to create a fresh, simpler Facebook. As per the social platform , the intention is to bring the desktop version more in line with the mobile app, while also making it easier for users to switch between usage areas.

Google updates search rankings to favor original news reporting.

Google has updated search ranking to give more weight to original reporting of news stories. With this change, Google aims to organically allow original coverage more prominently over follow-up coverage from other sources. Google will make sure the original news report is featured in search engine results pages for longer periods of time.

Google Ads introduces new policies for certain types of medical ads.

Google Ads has introduced new policies to prohibit ads for unproven medical techniques. Examples of these techniques are, as stated by Google, stem cell therapy, cellular (non-stem) therapy and gene therapy. This new policy will prohibit ads from selling treatments that have no established scientific basis. Even ads for treatments with insufficient formal testing will also be prohibited, even if they are rooted in basic scientific findings.
